FSG Meets Tight Project Deadline for Greentown Labs
Challenge
Greentown Labs, the largest climatetech startup incubator in North America, has helped launch over 300 startup ventures focused on technological solutions to climate and energy challenges from its flagship location in Somerville, Massachusetts. For their second location, they selected the Rice Innovation District in midtown Houston, across from the brand new technology hub, The ION. Miller LaPointe was selected as the general contractor to deliver approximately 30,000 square feet of prototyping lab and office space for about 50 energy startup ventures, and turned to FSG's Houston branch to deliver fast and efficient electrical construction services for this high-profile project, which had a five-month project timeline and a deadline set for Earth Day 2021.Solution
After completing all demolition work in January, FSG immediately began electrical construction at Greentown Labs' new Houston facility. Despite final permitting being under review, FSG worked with the general contractor to prepare as much as possible for the project. Once official permits were received in February, FSG led power and data rough-ins, with finishing work ongoing until just days before the deadline. Despite the challenge of an abbreviated timeline, the new facility opened on Earth Day 2021, providing space for 50 energy startup ventures to thrive.Result
The grand opening of Greentown Labs Houston on April 22, 2021, was attended by numerous business executives, politicians, and local media outlets. Rice Management Company and Greentown Labs were thrilled with the state-of-the-art facility and its first tenant's future prospects. With this expansion, Greentown Labs aims to connect innovative minds in Boston and Houston to tackle the climate and energy challenges of the future.
