Colgate turned to FSG to upgrade their lighting system with the latest technology.

Challenge

Colgate Palmolive has long been committed to sustainability, and when it came time for another lighting upgrade at their Piscataway facility, they once again turned to FSG. A decade after FSG's first retrofit helped them reduce their electrical load by 225kW, Colgate partnered with FSG to take advantage of the latest in lighting technology for even greater efficiency.

Solution

FSG’s solution included the installation of energy-saving Philips 25W T8 lamps and occupancy sensors throughout office and lab spaces. These upgrades reduced fixture wattage by 25%. Additional enhancements included retrofitting 2x2 T8 U-lamp fixtures with reflectors and F17T8 straight lamps. In high-demand areas like warehouses, pilot plants, and the powerhouse, legacy HID fixtures were replaced with efficient T8 highbays, cutting energy usage by 50% while significantly increasing lamp life.

Result

This second-generation retrofit delivered another 120kW reduction to Colgate’s electrical load. With optimized lighting, enhanced controls, and smarter technology, Colgate was positioned to save over $100,000 annually, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
