FSG upgraded 1,500 fixtures at East Coast Warehouse in Elizabeth, NJ

Challenge

East Coast Warehouse, a leading logistics provider with over 38 million square feet of distribution space nationwide, faced the challenge of improving energy efficiency and visibility in its 1.8 million square foot complex in Elizabeth, NJ. The facility includes both refrigerated and ambient storage areas, demanding specialized lighting to meet strict food safety and U.S. Customs inspection requirements. FSG, having previously provided the original HPS Holophane Prismalume system, was selected to execute a comprehensive upgrade across the three-building site.

Solution

FSG began by installing 6LF32T8 fluorescent high bays across nearly 1,500 locations, tailoring the solution with narrow beam reflectors for aisle lighting and using totally enclosed fixtures for food storage safety. Occupancy sensors were also installed in aisles and bulk storage areas to reduce energy usage during low-traffic periods. The project was completed efficiently within three months, balancing energy savings with operational performance.

Result

Several years later, FSG returned to convert the existing fluorescent fixtures to LED tubes, cutting energy costs by an additional 70% while reusing the original fixtures and sensors. This future-ready approach resulted in $220,000 in annual energy savings and extended the life of East Coast Warehouse’s lighting investment.
